Hello, Michelangello_200, welcome aboard!
I own a NEC1300a drive and I am very pleased with it. I've made quite some backups since I bought it (about 200) and everything seems to be working great. Out of the box, the drive doesn't support too much different media, but lucklily enough, alternative firmwares solve this problem.
The writing quality of the drive is good, speed is ok etc etc. The only thing I can't tell you is how this drive works with protected discs as I don't own any (and I don't care)...
Some people say that you'd be better of with a Pioneer 106/A06 drive, as it'll probably support more different -R media. This ofcourse is ideal if you want to use the cheapest media available (something I'd like to advice against).
If you search our forums for nEC1300a or 1300a, you'll find lots of info on this drive. Mybe this can help you by getting a clear picture about the drive's qualities!
