NEC ND-6100A - can't seem to burn on a 16X disk

I have an Dell Inspiron 5150 with a NEC ND-6100A DVD burner in it. I have been successful in burning at 8X. I have recently purchased new disks (TDK 16X disks) and they won’t burn successfully.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is this a limitation of the drive? If so is there a bios (flash) upgrade to address this?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks

“won’t burn successfully” Could you please explain more detailed?
Please post a logfile, remove the Nero serial in case it’s an Nero logfile.

Please provide information about TDK’s media identification using DVD Identifier and you drives firmware.

Reading FAQ’s is also a good idea to start with.

I tried the DVD Identifier with the TDK disks… but it was unsuccessful. See my log below:

As for Firmware… is there a program to run to verify this? I did apply the following firmware … NEC ND-6100A 104D RPC1 and Rip Speed Firmware… but I’d like to confirm for you.

I am using CloneDVD2 & AnyDVD to do my burn… I don’t think it has a log file.

Your 6100 can only recognize and burn to DVD+R and DVD+RW media, not DVD-R and DVD-RW!
Dell always cripples the OEM drives to save licensing costs…

There should be a way to crossflash it to an 6500 burner - but this would void the warranty of course.

Questions remain:

What firmware was originally on your drive?
What exact media have you tried with?

How do I know the previous firmware?

As for media…
Maxell DVD+R 8X works
Ridata DVD+R 8X works
TDK DVD+R 8X works

TDK DVD+R 16X fail… these are the only 16X I bought (100 pk from Costco)

I personally wouldn’t use 16x rated dvd media with a slimtype DVD burner.

What is their mediacode?

Hello! I’m having a similer problem. :frowning: My dvd burnner has always burnned up to 8X dvds, but not for so reason it will only burn at 6X. Now maybe i’m mistaken, but I dont believe so. I have a dell 5150 and the burnner is a NEC DVD+RW DN-61000A. I also cant burn “up to 16X” dvds. Everyone tells me that i should be able to burn because they can burn at any speed between 1-16. I dont know what to do. If you oculd offer any insight I would be most happy. Thank you for your time. This is also what DVD identifier said:

You should just buy GOOD media.

And what would your opinion of good media be? The dvds i’m using are sony and maxell brand. I dont have a problem as long as there not the up to 16 times… I dont even want to use them, but i cant find just 8x anymore, so i really dont have a choice.

With the 6500 you can use MCSE…
