NEC ND-4551A does not recognize DVD-RAM:
Panasonic DVD-RAM Single Sided
MatsushitaElectricIndustrialCO.,LTD.M01J3004
Format Capacity 4.27GB(4.58GB)
Book Type DVD-RAM
Media Type DVD-RAM
Speed 2x-3x

Firmware is Liggys 1.09
http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/fwinfo/de/4551a/109

It has been tested on the ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro with
a VIA VT 6330 IDE controller.

What could be the cause?
How can I fix the problem?
Regards

I had severe trouble once with a VIA IDE controller. Using IDE burners on latest boards, I had good experience with this adapter. Worked fine for me with a NEC ND-3540 on P35 and Z87 chipset SATA controller as well as a LiteOn SHM-165P6S on Z87 and Asmedia 1061 controllers

Beside that I can only think of either an internal ID being wrong after a crossflash or simply unsupported media.

why do you mention that this firmware from Liggy ? I understood that it is official NEC software and Liggy didn’t patch 1.09 version

I’m going to flash under Linux (Debian sid) my old NEC ND-4551A and ND-3500A to burn the disks for Xbox 360.

Can I use this official latest NEC version ? (I didn’t find patched versions)

BTW, there is no he or she.

A device is an “it”.
