NEC ND-3550A problem

Sorry if i missed something in this forum, but from the search results i have found i cant find an answer to this question. So here it is:

I recently just purchased a NEC ND-3550A from newegg that came bundled with some Legacy 8xDVD-R. First thing i did was install new firmware for it, and i did it exaclty as the firmware site said (btw i got the OEM NEC link off of this very website). Anyways, so after i update it to 1.06, restart, and get my comp running again i wanted to test it out and back up some music onto the Legacy DVD’s. In short, it does not work at all when trying to recognize these DVD’s! It will recognize any ps2, xbox or normal DVD, but not these Legacy dvds. Nero recognizes the blank media but wont burn to it.

Before i go out and buy some different DVD’s to see if those work, is there anything you guys can suggest to help me fix this problem?

At first glance, it looks like a media problem (although I could be waaaay off base).

Can you pop one of those Legacy DVDs into DVDIdentifier, and post the Media ID?

If it recognises regular DVDs, and the discs you’ve mentioned, then that leads me to believe the drive’s not keen on the discs…does Nero give you an error when you try to burn to them? If so, can you post it?

Also, the error nero gives me is something like “illegal disk”. After i eat dinner ill come back and post the full error.

What means backup here?

Do you try to burn CDDA content on a DVD or use a cd template??

To the last post, i dont really know what your talking about.

#6

Manufacturer ID : [GSC003]

I’d try a better brand of DVD-R like Verbatim or TY or Sony…but maybe somebody else could give input.

#7

Correct, use better media.

#8

I agree with using better media - just because something comes bundled with your burner, doesn’t automatically mean it’s gonna be good. I had a Ritek G05 bundled with my first burner :Z

#9

Thats exactly why i posted here. I didnt know if it was because the dvds were crappy or because my burner was crappy. Thanks for answering my questions though.
