I was recently having problems with my Plextor 712a burner and after doing a lot of reading on these forums I found that the drive was a goner. I decided to buy a cheaper drive this time, I've only had plextor's before, and decided to go with an NEC 3550a.
Bought and installed as master on the primary IDE channel (I have two SATA HDs) and tested it to see how it went. So far I've burned about 4-5 dvd videos no problem execpt for when burning on an 8x media it goes like this 4.1x for 0%-20%, 6.2x 20%-50% and then 8.3x 50%-%100. Now its roughly the same for every burn and I've tried the burner in two different PCs. The device buffer goes down to 0% for a second everytime it goes up in speed. Now I've been using this media for everything with my plextor and have never expirenced this but thats what I'm guessing the problem is. But would like some opinions and if any1 that has tried any of the forum made firmwares if that helped.
