I'm looking at either getting, in order of current preference: -
A) NEC ND-1300A (4x DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W)
B) Panasonic SW 9581-C (2x DVD-R and 1x DVD-RAM, advantage of this drive is that it burns all 1x media at 2x with no problem.)
Review of this drive is at:
C) Wait for another drive, possibly a Liteon
I'm tempted by the panasonic because of it's ability to write all 1x media at 2x which means I can just buy the cheaper 1x media all the time. I've heard that 6x and 8x DVD writers will be making their way out at the end of the year so hopefully the 4x disks will eventually reduce in price anyhow.
What interests me in the NEC is that it has a feature which reads what has just been wrote and adjusts the power to make it more readable. I don't know if this is a feature on all drives and if it is a useful one.
What's the chance the NEC will burn all 1x media at 2x without problems? Any ideas?
When are Liteon DVD drives likely to come out? I guess not so soon as the NEC.
