Can liggy tell me how to upgrade my NEC 1300A back to a 1300A as i used this utility to downgrade my drive to a 1000A to use a DVD that did not work. I have firmwared the drive in DOS to a 1300A drive but the utility will not let me upgrade back to a 1300A Can you help please
:doh:

If it was possible to change from 1300 to 1000, the way back should work too - at least when you’re still using the same firmware. If it doesn’t, do you get an error message?

#3

Liggy the error is “Error changing drive type”. I have also changed the firmware over with the 1.0C firmware in dos this tells me that i have a NEC ND-1300A with 1.0c firmware but in the nec drive converter it says in a grayed out box that it is a NEC ND-1000A. :confused:

#4

Hmmm. This error message only occurs if the drive rejects the command to change the necessary value. If it was possible to change from 1300 to 1000, the other way round should work too. :confused:

If everything else doesn’t work, I’ll try to find a different solution with a modified firmware.

I can flash the firmware in dos and it works ok it still reports a NEC ND-1300A but in windows if i try to use the windows flasher it tells me that it can’t find a drive. this also happens when i try using the NEC ND-1000A winflash.

#6

TDB’s flasher seems to check the drive in a different way. Binflash has a builtin check for the value that was changed on your drive, so Binflash cannot flash your drive at the moment.

#7

Liggy I have used the necflash 1.17 for dos and the error i encountred was.

//aspiexamine.srb_status = 81 (129)
//aspisay:x81:00:00 20E (Status Buflen senselen)
Drive type could not determined

am i doing anything wrong :confused:

#8

I don’t think so. Your drive is not recognized by Binflash. It’s something that depends on the change in your drive. The next Binflash version will recognize your drive correctly too. I can give you an early version if you drop me your eMail address in a PM

Anyone who used the NEC Driver Converter program and can’t get their firmware to reflash should use a program called splitt32. What you have to do is dowload an NEC ND1000A fimware from NEC’s Website. Use splitt32 to extract the bin file from the NEC Windows Flash program. Now you should have a .Bin file this should be about 1.8MB in size as it contains the drive Parameters. If you ask liggy nicely enough he will send you a link to his great drive flasher program. Next step is to use liggy’s necwinflash to flash the .bin file you extracted from the exe file. When instructed restart the computer. Next use NEC Driver Converter to reconvert your drive to a NEC ND1300A. once you have done that restart your computer again. Now when you try the NEC Driver Converter it should say you have an NEC ND1000A firmware but in the box telling you you drive type it should say 1300A. Final thing to do is go back to the NEC website and get an NEC ND1300A firmware and repeat the same steps with the NEC ND1300A. Reflash firmware on your drive with the NEC ND1300A bin file you extracted and you should have a you original drive back. The websit to get theese tolls from is http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/utilities.html . And for the great 1.0C firmaware from Herries website http://herrie.org/.

Hehe and now guess who wrote this nice little tool? I could also offer a 16 Bit DOS version of it. :wink:

Hmmm. Usually my great drive flasher program as you call it, should be able to handle the executable firmware too.

Just updated the drive converter to version 1.1 (including the about box @ Scorpiosoft!)
Added support for the 3550/4550 drives and fixed a bug that didn’t accept changing the current drive.

I wonder why nobody recognized this bug. Or is Dee the only one with more than one NEC burner?
