NEC AD-7630A: layer change problem

Hi all,

I am having problems writing dual-layer DVDs with my new AD-7630A.

After a few failed discs, I have noticed that the problem is focused around the layer change point during recording.
On one brand of discs (Mirror, found as Ricoh by Nero’s Info tool), the recording is completed successfully, but the file that was written on the layer change point is unreadable.
On another brand (Aone), the recording simply fails just as it’s trying to switch to layer 2.

I am including part of Nero’s log file during one such failed recording, in case it might be of help in identifying what’s wrong.

Could it be just bad media (and bad luck, given that it’s two different brands)?

Or maybe a defective drive?

Thanks in advance!

I’d recommend Verbatim discs for DL burning - those two brands you mentioned just happen to be not very good

Often bad DL media will fail at the layer break.

Get some Verbatim (maybe you can buy a small pack) and I’m sure they’ll work.

Another thing you might try is burning with ImgBurn to see if you can salvage a disc or two - it’s better with the layer break than Nero is.

Thanks Arachne!

Any brands other than Verbatim that you might recommend for DL?
Seeing as Verbatim prices are quite a bit more expensive than everything else :o
But in the end, if that’s what it takes, Verbatim it will be :iagree:

Yeah they are pretty expensive (but then I think you get what you pay for - hardly anyone reports problems that are related to the media with them).

I think HP (CMC) DL may work (NECs tend to like CMC, or at least mine does)…but what I’d say if you tried those, is be prepared if they too fail
