NEC 4550 not reading CDs since install WinDVD

I am hoping someone can help. I have a new NEC 4550 that was working fine, reading both DVD’s and CDs. However, the CD side of the player has stopped functioning (they are not recognised) and I believe this is since I installed WinDVD.

Has anyone got any ideas about how I can fix this or has anyone also had this problem?

Many thanks

Check it’s prefs and uninstall it if it doesn’t help.

Then you’d probably have to use a registry cleaner to make it really disappear…

Hi Chef,

I have tried reinstalling but this has not helped. It still will not recognise any CD’s. Any other ideas?

Try to read some CDs under DOS, real DOS.
If that fails, the drive should be replaced with a new one.
