NEC 3550 scanning : -R and +R differences?

Just got my 3550 the other day, haven’t had time to do much scanning, and I don’t have many disks around at the moment.

However, I scanned one Traxdata +R (RitekR02) and one Datawrite -R (RitekG05).
Both were labelled, and burned, @4x in the same NEC3500.

The results of my scans are that the Datawrite RitekG05 (-R) scans well at 5x, 8x, but scans PIEs horribly at 12x.
Scan at 16x (max) seems ok but fails right at the end of the disk.

No surprise perhaps, that 5x is better than 12x.

However, I then scanned the Traxdata RitekR02, and the results surprised me.
PIFs stay about the same at 5, 8, 12 (best) and 16, but PIEs are alot higher on 5x and 8x than at 12x or 16x.

What I mean is : On the +R, 12x gives lowest total PIEs. On the -R 12x gives the highest PIEs.

Could be that the 3500 burned -R or +R better or worse, I don’t know :slight_smile:
Could also mean that 3550 is very fluky at scanning PIEs, as mentioned elsewhere :slight_smile:

Has anyone else noticed differences at what speed seems “best” for scanning +R or -R?

I include 8 pictures.
Graph limit was locked at 200, I find that gives a better overview, others might disagree.

It is almost specific to RITEKG05 DVR-R media, but you can see that some people has best scans at 5x or 8x, and other people has better result with 12x and 16x.

The whole situation is confusing us…
