NEC 3540 still doesnt recongnise any blank discs

vbimport

#1

It still doesnt recongnise any blank discs I put in. The same happens wit blank cds it just crashes after loading for a bit.Im using datawrite 8x brand new

It was doing this before then after about 7 hours of trying it started working.I havent used it i about a week and a half and its started doing the same thing. I have an external 3540 drive. Its set to master on the back.

In device manager under IDE/ATAPI i have

Primary IDE Channel
Secoundary IDE Channel
Sis PCI IDE Controller

I dont know what i have to do to get this to work someone please help!!!

Its a new burner which i cant burn with.Im running Xp and sp2 its got the original firmware on it.Has anyone actually got some drivers for this one cd?

#2

No drivers needed.

99% chances your drive is defective.

I can’t remember any case of a drive refusing to handle blanks because of a config problem. Each time I encountered this, it was a drive failure.

Only way to know for sure is to try it on another PC…

You may always try to re-flash the firmware, even with the same version. Who knows.

#3

thing is it has worked before bit then if i dont use it for abit it stops

#4

Yeah, I got that part. Your point being?

#5

== poor or unsupported media(code).

And don’t use Multisession for burning DVD necessarily.

#7

Just tryed to burn a audio cd 73% through it failed saying this:

C00D11AB: Cannot burn files to CD
Windows Media Player cannot burn (copy) the selected files to the CD. To fix the problem, do one or more of the following:

Clean the disc and verify that it is not damaged.
Select a slower recording (write) speed for the CD burner (recorder).
Try a different brand of blank discs.
Quit other programs.
To select a slower recording speed
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Devices tab.
In Devices, double-click the name of the CD burner (recorder), and then click the Recording tab.
In the write-speed list, select a slower speed.

#10

Once again:

Have you tried to re-flash? If you don’t try possible solutions when we post them, no use to ask for help.

#11

Where do i find the files to reflash and how its been a long time since i last did this. Its currently runnning the original firmware

If i reflash will my warranty be void?

#12

Ok ive just burnt an iso disc at 4 x and its done fine. What is going on?

#13

Now its just failed when i burnt a cd

#14

Try to run it on a firewire port if you can. If not open the external box, make sure the the cables are in nice and tight, use another usb cable if you have one. If these things don’t work put the drive in as internal, if it works ok go ahead and update the firmware while it is a internal drive.

#15

It was on firewire

#16

what is the chipset of the firewire and have you tried it internal?

#17

Dont know how to find out and cant because i havent got another pc

#18

Im going to return this drive cant get it to burn squat.

What are the chances of this happening brand new drive defective?

#19

A good choice.
You can always get a “monday” drive.

#20

Why do i keep thinking its somethnig ive done wrong?
