When did this come out? Isn’t the latest version 2.27?

#3

I hope this is newer (as far as write strategies) than the 2.C8SE. I need faster write speeds for my TDK 8X DVD-R!!!

cool! that’s a good start. Now I wonder if this one supports bitsetting to +R? Also, Pinto2, would it be possible for you to do a comparison of the write strategies between 2.18 and 2.C8SE? Thx!

#6

2.18 Only support DL+R BitSetting.

#7

Pinto2; Could please tell us how did get these writing strategy information and is this F/W (2.18) is officially released by NEC, have you had a chance to upgrade to this and test it, if so, are you satisfied with performance of it?.

Thanks

  • NEC “stock” firmware (official)

  • Firmware rev. 2.18

  • Release date; Nov. 5. 2004

  • I use “2500 dump” to get write strategy versions.

NOTE. No support for SL bitsetting.

#9

Thank you for the information and being on top of the issue. Is 2.18 Rip Lock free? or has to be modified to remove the Rip Lock?.

#10

Rip lock… still there. :a

Been burning two Taiyo Yuden minus -R´s, (TYG02) but I can´t see any significative improvement in burn quality.

#11

looks like DL 1.24->1.26 might be big change. like to see DL burn on mkm01 or ritek see how it is, but I dont have any. there still like $39.96 for 3 in local shops.

#12

Try this. Prices have come down a lot since the initial release.

#13

26.00 with 10.00 rebate not bad still only 3 disks , I will keep it in mind, thanks.

#14

I flashed from 2.17 (so called official) to 2.18 and everything seems okey, I got a bit worried though when NEC claims upgrade should only be made from 2.16>2.18. Will this mean quality issues for me? I could reflash to 2.16 first but it seems to be a hassle… What are your recommendations?

#15

there are no quali issues if you flash from 2.17!

On the USA HP from NEC is a new 2.17 hosted!

#16

I will update my NEC Firmware page in about 5 hours when I’m back home from work.

#17

Now all we need is for TDB/Herrie/Liggy to remove the riplock and add RPC1 , and bitset for SL and DL. Then we have something really to look forward to.!!

#18

brantdk: for SL bitsetting we’ll have to wait for TDK or Mad Dog to release their new FW i guess.
ScorpySoft: I’ve already made the changes to the table =)

#19

Thanks for the info. about 2500 dump… pinto2

BTW… Can you give a short how2 TUT for this utility?.. since ScorpioSofts’ site only hosts 2500dump.exe without any how 2 explanation. I only ask as you gave probably the easiest to understand How2 flash NEC drives in DOS TUT I’ve read in the NEC forums. Comperable to those TUT’s of the Lite-On forums here. :iagree:

#20

heh 2500 dump is easy to use… put the 2500dump where the firmware .bin is… go to command and go to the directory where 2500dump and firmware is … and type 2500dump “your fw” =)
Maybe i’ll write a frontend for 2500dump to make it even easyer to use =)
