NEC 2510a

Hey guys…I’ve had a NEC 2510a for about 6months now and i can’t complain not one coaster since i’ve had it… Only problem is that for some reason i cannot burn ISO DVD images at 8x… I only can burn at 4x…I have the newest firmware 2.16 which i got from http://drivers.softpedia.com/public/drivers/10-2502.shtml I’m currently using Nero 6.6.0.1. I’ve tried a few previous nero burns such as 6.0.0.1 but to no avail could i burn at 8x…Any help would be great… t

thanx

Please post the MID Code of the discs that you are trying to burn at 8X. It could be a media/firmware issue.

You could also try burning your ISOs with DVDDecrypter.
It will show you the actual burnspeed while it occurs.
FYI, the NEC 2510A burns in zones 4X -> 6X -> 8X

Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD+R 4.7GB are the dvd+r’s i ahve been using…nero only reads my burner to be at 2x or 4x 6 nor 8x is avaliable

sorry wrong MID code…that should be the code… not sure about all this technical stuff[CMC MAG]

sorry to add to the confusion…but i did what u said and used DVD decrypteer to burn my DVD+R’s. I chose to burn at 8x but it said actual speed is 4x… The good news is that even though it said 4x it finished burning in 13mins 58 seconds opposed to nero’s 35 mins… I’m not sure why nero and dvd decrypter say they are burning at the same speed while dvd decrypter is clearing quicker…
once again sorry for the continuing additioNS

15 minutes is still 4X.

there you go man…thanks for the help by the way…

Well there ya go! CMC MAG F01 is only 4X certified!
Generally speaking, you need 8X media to burn at 8X.

If you REALLY want to burn those at 8X, you can load Herries’ 1.07 HV2B5 firmware on your drive (which will allow you to burn them at 8X).
Check the ‘NEC Firmware and Modding links’ sticky thread for a link.

And you’re welcome.

ahhh…someone told me some discs burn at 8x regardless if they are 4x…guess they were wrong…one last thing…since u obviously know more about dvd-r’s than ever will  can u tell me if these are good dvd-rs and if there are any u recommend…that are 8x  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002ER3B8/qid=1099552147/sr=8-3/ref=pd_csp_3/102-3509053-5100157?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846

or these… DVD+R edition http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002ER3BS/ref=pd_sbs_e_2/102-3509053-5100157?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846

Memorex media can be a crapshoot.
They repackage different types of media from various manufacturers.
I would suggest looking for some FujiFilm 8X DVD+R on sale somewhere, which will be RICOHJPNR02 or more likely YUDEN000T02 Taiyo Yuden media.
Both of these types will burn excellently at 8X on your drive with any firmware.

ok…sounds good…once again thanks for your help

I am pretty happy with Verbatim media - they are cheaper here in Scandinavia and generally good. The quality can in my experience be compared with FujiFilm, judged from 4x media.

Some of the old 4x Verbatims can be written with 8x, even with stock FW. However, most shops in Sweden and Germany are changing to 8x as the 4x is apparently not produced anymore.
