sorry firmware 215

You will need to use hacked firmware to be able to write at 8x on this media.
NEC in their infinite wisdom has decided to not to allow 8x on G05.

I know, I know, you bought an 8x8 drive and some 8x media and now you have to hack it to use it.

Personally I don’t know why NEC is making this choice.(They want to save you from yourself???)
I got pretty good results with the combination @ 8x on the 1.06 official firmware.

can i use that firmware on the 2510a would it work with the duel layer not the wrtie speed i know that will not wrtie any faster becuse if i put 1.06 official firmware it is lower than my 2.15 sorry to sound dum

I think pchilson is talking about official 1.06 firmware of 2500A drive, not 2510.
I can’t remember there’s any 2510 based official firmware that writes G05 at 8x.
In the above thread, there are two 2510 firmwares 2.04 and 2.15, both allows only 4x for G05. (Anyone correct me if I’m wrong.)

If you really want 8x writing, go for hacked 2500A firmware. In fact, Herrie v2b5 firmware is based on 2510A firmware(in fact the OEM equivalent HP drive) but the name is still 2500A just because it is convenient for most people.

Many drive manufacturers have limited RitekG05 write speeds to 4X maximum.
This is due to this medias’ variability and low reliability at 8X writing.
Of course, some of these discs will write at 8X with absolutely no problems as pchilson has shown above.
Use Herries 107v2b5 for 8X writing on this media (plus much more!)
You’ll need to flash the drive in DOS.

hi thanks for the help guys will let you know what im going to do later
thanks again
