NEC 2510 + Verbatim DL: Power calibration error?!?

Hello all.

I am trying to burn my first dvd9 disks and am having problems. Previously this drive has worked great with dvd5 burns on a variety of media (and continues to). I bought two packs of Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x from Amazon and can’t get them to burn. Nero (6.6.0.18) fails with power calibration errors as it starts to write the lead-in. My NEC 2510 came to me from New Egg with firmware version 2.06  about 6 months ago. After much searching I found version 2.15 and flashed from that to 2.18. I am not sure what else to do to fix the problem.

Here’s the log from one of the failures:

Nero can not burn DL movie backups. You have to use dvd d. in ‘iso read’ mode. then use dvd d. or IMGburn to burn in ‘iso write mode’.

For firmware try 2f8 or 2f9. http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/

I knew I left something out… I was trying to burn an iso disk of avi files and folders. I downloaded Nero 7 and got the same thing  .

Thanks, Mary

i agree that one of the latest firmwares would probably be best. i would suggest checking out the liggy dee firmwares for best results

Do these modified firmwares have a good track record? I don’t want to fry my drive.

Thanks.

yes

Well, I used the “Liggy’s and Dee’s NEC ND2510A 205c modified firmware with RIPLOCK removed, RPC1 Patch and Bitsetting on DL media only” and got the same error. Could I have gotten a bad pack of disks? I am now creating an img file which I will then attempt to burn… I’m not holding out much hope.

CRAP! More of the same.

i suppose it could be the drive. the discs are supposed to be perfect. i guess i haven’t seen any issues with mkm 01. when i check the LD website http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/2500/ it looks like the DL media strats are the same version in 2.18 2F8 and 205c so not sure if any of them are going to change your writing issue. i assume that the disc is not dead or written to after the error right? hopefully you are not wasting expensive discs each time you try. :frowning:

one thing i noticed from the your log is that incd is installed. please uninstall and see if that makes a difference.

i would also suggest removing the 4.71 aspi and trying 4.60. might want to try forceaspi for that

Using ASPI 4.60 is a good idea here (doesn’t count for Nero, has its own).

It could be the age of your drive eventually.

Thanks for your replies folks. I went ahead and ordered a new NEC 3550 from NewEgg’s weekend sale. Along with ten more Verbatim DL discs. Hopefully the new drive will work without trouble. My hard drive is really filling up and I need to get stuff archived!

Thanks again.
