In Nero, when I choose 8X (or 6X for that matter)as the speed of burning, the drive still burns at 4X. why do you think this is? (yes i used the search funcion on the forum…but didnt find anything

Im using following media (THATS WRITE DVD-R)

Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID OPTODISCR008
Format Capacity Blank Disc
Free Blocks 412352512
Free Capacity 4.38GB(4.71GB)
Book Type DVD-R
Media Type DVD-R
Manufacturer Rated Speed Unknown
Available Write Descriptor CLV 8.0x 11080KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 5.9x 8112KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Write Strategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBps

Some additional info:

  • My drive have DMA mode enabled
  • im using the latest Nero version.
  • Im using 25x0 hacked bitsetting firmware 2500v3-2.bin (2xx0v3-2)
  • I have not tested burning with other media
  • Buffer level when burning are OK (90%+)

Its strange that this media wont work, i mean… why would they print 8X on the top of the discs? :stuck_out_tongue: and Im guessing the nec 2500a supports 8x burning.

what do you guys think…? is it just that this media is NOT supported by my NEC drive?

please do a transfer rate test with cd speed. save the graph and post it here.
check the burst rate. post it here.
you can also do a CREATE DATA DISC and post that as well if you are not opposed to wasting a disc. and of course post it here.

I ordered some Verbatims discs today. Im going to try those…

pretty please do as i asked… that way we can see if it is a disc, system or other limitation.

those tests will tell us what is going on.

New Member here, with the same problem - setting burn speed to 6X or 8X results in 4X burning.

Note: This only applies to the media described below. I have also used Sony DVD+R (sold individually in jewel cases, but that I dont know code for) that worked perfectly at 8X (even with original FW). Without Herrie’s Updated FW, the media below only can be burned at 2.4X as default.

Drive:
_NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A

FW:
Herrie’s 1.08v3-2 [based on Mad Dog 8XDVDRW-PM 2.F8*]

System:
AMD64 3200+ w/ 1024Mb DDR400

Software:
Nero 6.3.0.2

Media:
Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID Plasmon1C01
Media Product Revision Number 00h
Format Capacity Blank Disc
Free Blocks 405405696
Free Capacity 4.38GB(4.70GB)
Book Type DVD+R
Media Type DVD+R
Manufacturer Rated Speed Unknown
Available Write Descriptor CLV 8.0x 11080KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 5.9x 8112KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Linear Density Blank Disc
Track Density Unknown
Number of Layers 1

Nero CD-DVD Speed Results:
Start Rate: 3.24x
End Rate: 7.94X
Average Rate: 5.92X
Burst Rate - 24Mb/s
Graph Attached (hopefully).

Thoughts welcome.

@omni

The Nero you’re using is way outdated. Try a newer version, it might help. Upgrades can be downloaded for free on www.nero.com

#7

nothing wrong with the drive try different firmware or media

#8

Now using Nero 6.6.0.12. No change - still slow.

I guess I just cannot buy this media anymore.

Thanks for all the support.

Yeah, sorry. Should have mentioned that I had tried various firmware. Most don’t even allow me to burn this media above 2.4X, and a couple just gave me power calibration error. My best chance was for Herrie’s FW, but the overwhelming number of problems with this particular media just shows that the media is no good. I will happily spend the extra quid (!) for decent media.

Thanks

i didn’t pay attention until now what the media was… yeah it is the media
