NEC 2500A Problems with NTI Backup Software

I’ve been having a long battle with my NTI backup software and my NEC 2500 A DVD Drive. I used DVD Identifier to check the media and I switched to Sony based on something I read in one of the websites about supported media.

My confusion is this… DVD Identifier seems to think the firmware is 1.70. I haven’t done anything to the drive or the firmware but 1.70 doesn’t seem right when I see only references to 1.07 and 1.06.

I don’t know if I have a drive issue or software issue but I am getting very tired of burning DVD coasters. Any thoughts? The driver is MS version 5.1.2535.0 and I’m running XP Pro.

As I rememebr, there has been a few mentioning this FW in the past. I don’t think it is better than any of the more “normal” firmwares, so perhaps you could flash to one of the modified FW’s.

I have been using Herrie’s 1.07v2beta4 for a while but resently switched to MadDog 2.F7 because of newer write strategies (i.e. better burns) for DVD-RW. This is found at http://tdb.rpc1.org/ (under NEC 2510 which is the same drive as 2500 but with DL firmware).

A thread mentioning the different FW’s can be found at
