I recently purchased a Plextor 708A, and shortly thereafter returned it.
After burning multiple coasters with Memorex 4X DVD-R media I decided to look online and see if anyone had similar problems with the drive. After finding these forums I see there are hosts of Plextor 708 problems and not many people recommended them. I notice many people had problems with the CD-R read/write functions of the Plextor, so I decided to check that out. After 4 Imation coasters (that I've used for years previously in my Plex 4012A CD-R/RW) I'd had enough, and RMA'd the drive...
I've since done a lot of research at many different sites regarding DVD+- recorders. I am a bit overwhelmed by all the info out there, but I think I've found what I'm looking for. I want a drive that is compatible with as much as possible... ie. media types. I don't want to have to worry about it burning coasters out of my media; and I will sacrifice speed to have that comfort.
I'm almost certain that the NEC 2500A is the drive for me; although I'm still looking at the Lite on 812S as well. I'd love to see some responce on the NEC drive or the Lite On drive; whether or not anyone can recommend either of them (or if you can't!)
To give a bit more info, I am primarily interested in backing up DVDs and games; but I also do a bit of video editing and DVD authoring. I would like a drive that can make good discs out of most media that will play well in a host of DVD readers (too much to ask? )
Thanks in advance!
