Does any one have any idea on the release date of the next beta release , maybe with better support to +RW format ?

whats wrong with the dvd+rw support of the b5?

All versions which are based on the HP bitsetting firmwares have some degree of “issues” with RW media. Mainly it consists of occasionally burned discs with higher PI/PO error rates, maybe 1 in 5 or so. The later versions have much less trouble, but it will vary from one drive to the next.

Herries 1.07v2b6 is already out. Herries version of the 2510A 2.15 firmware is called v2b6. It doesn’t have any media hacks included yet, but you can use it on the 2500A, it has riplock disabled and is RPC1. It doesn’t contain support for bitsetting, as it is an original NEC firmware.

So you should ask for 1.07v2b7 or perhaps 1.07v3b1? :wink:

1.07HV2B6 has already been released.

i think he means the next release of herries fw i have the beta of it…i think it will be a final 1.07 release and not beta when its released im using it no problems getting very good results. :wink:

the one above is just a hacked nec 2.15 version…this version that i have is that plus all the media fixes and enhancements.

What interests me most is the possibility to write ricohjpnw01 DVD+RWs @4x. Have you already tried it? How are your results?

Furthermore: Has any1 succeeded to write a dual layer disc @4x?

will this be a good fimware for when i get my writer on friday (an nec 2500a) as i have alot of bulkpaq oranges and love this idea of dual layer support.

That would be impressive! That unsuccessful 4x DL burn by CDRInfo a few weeks ago was done on a LiteOn 812S@832S using a firmware that I had sent them. The burn completed, but the lead-in area was corrupted and the disc was rendered unreadable. :sad: It was a long shot, and I thought that it was pure luck that it would even agree to burn, so I never even thought to give it another shot after that failed. But if this works, then maybe getting it to work correctly for the Liteys won’t be that far-fetched of an idea after all. This is exciting! :slight_smile:

But …

Would it be possible to implement a dual speed writing strategy? By that I mean, it starts the write at 2.4x then speeds up to 4x at a certain point?

Just wondering if that would have gotten around the lead-in problem.

4x to 2.4x DL media is living and breathing…
