NEC 2500 not Writing DVDs

vbimport

#1

I’ve had a ton of problems with this drive ever since I got it. For awhile I had an issue where it wouldn’t burn any DVDs unless it was set as the master drive and ended up having to disconnect my CD drive just so it would see it as master. Now, about a year or so later, it’s mysteriously stopped burning DVDs altogether.

What feels strange about this to me is that Windows lists it as a “DVD-RW Drive” when there’s nothing in the drive. When a blank DVD-R is inserted, however, it changes to “CD Drive”.

Nero InfoTool gives the same report either way, but it fails to burn anything on it (I get
“_NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A
Illegal Disc
_NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A
Could not perform start of Disc-at-once”
, etc.).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could shed light on the situation. Thanks in advance. Here’s my InfoTool report:

What do you expect from an OS which DOES NOT support burning DVD media at all???

Use a actual burning app, a real one!
Nero 6.0 is obsolete, update to 6.6.1.4!

#3

Nero’s not an “actual burning app”? Alcohol refuses to burn anything, either.

What would you suggest?

I’ll update, though. Thanks.

#4

I’ve updated Nero and get the same results.

Any other suggestions?

Here is the error log after update:

#5

I don’t think that Ritek F1 are supported by any 2500 firmware at the moment.

#6

Thanks. After much fooling around, I found that a) somehow the drive had been reset again to slave and b) an older couple of DVD-Rs I had would burn after I fixed the master/slave issue.

I honestly didn’t know that there were any compatability issues on DVD-Rs beyond the +/- thing. I appreciate the responce.

#7

I am having the same problem mentioned above. Nero will not burn to DVD-Rs - I get the “Illegal Disc” and “Could not perform start of Disc-at-once” errors. My DVD-RW drive also changes to a CD drive when a disc is in it.

Can someone help me with changing the drive to Master? Seems like that worked for the last person. I’m somewhat a newbie… is this a hardware fix?

Thank you!

#8

How should this be possible??
