nd-6650A laptop problem

Hello,

I purchased a NEC ND-6650A external dvdburner, the slim model made for laptops .

Because a only have a dvdreader in my Toshiba laptop Satellite Pro 2100 i wanted to change it and place my new NEC instead.

I used your “NEC ND6650A Master bootcode flasher” ( Liggy for the tip!) and it seems that it worked fine, the drive’s greed led was blinking after the procedure (like it was told in the instructions).

Then, and from here i’m not sure i am doing the right thing, i put the NEC into the laptop. He started up fine (no error messages appeared), and when windows started he told me that a new dvd-drive had been found!

However, the drive itself wasn’t working and the green led now never stops blinking. :frowning:

I tried to flash my dumped bin-file (i made a backup of my bin-file before i used the bootcode flasher), but Binflash told me it wasn’t the right firmware anymore. I also tried to flash the “Original 1.62 Firmware” from your site, but failed again.

What must i do now to make my new internal drive work?

For Toshiba laptops you will probably have to use the “Slave bootcode flasher”. But since your laptop did not complain during startup, I must assume that this is what you did.

When you start Binflash, it seems to detect your drive. Which firmware does it show you? 0.05 or 0.06. If it’s 0.06 you will have to use a firmware version that starts with 2 - e.g. 2.62

It works!

It was a 0.06 version, so i flashed the Original Firmware 2.62 from your site and it works fine.

Thank you, thank you!

I have a Inspiron 2200 with a nec 6650a dvd burner(WITH 103D FIRMWARE) that replaced dvd rom drive. I have no problem with anytthing else expect burning dvd’s. I use nero 6.6, img tool, roxio, dvd shrink, and other various programs. it’s noted in the bios as a modular bay. it comes up under nero as 0:1 (name of drive inserted here) when checked under get system info.

this is a log i get when it fails under imgtool…i get similar results when trying to burn a dvd period under anyother program. i’m close to selling the labtop.
