My PX-708A

i just got my drive installed…it looks nice…
the tray ejects faster than my old plextor W4012A and with less noise!

the drive is made in china…TLA#0000

the package didnt come with any DVD-/+R(W) media…so i couldnt test the speed till now…

here are some pics :
sorry but i took them using my nokia 3650…no good light in this room so the pics arent really good…

There is no need to worry. Try downloading alexnoe’s weak sector utility here.

Good luck with your new Plexy…

I myself am using a Pioneer A06/106

i went to the market today…trying to get some DVD+R media that the writer will be able to burn at 8X but i couldnt find any.

i bought some TDK (DVD-R47EA) DVD-R media (made in japan,i thought they’re TY but they returned to be TDK made)
and the writer will only write to them @ 2X.
there is nothing about the speed written on the box so i can’t blame the writer.
i’ll buy some DVD+R media (even if they’re not supported in the writer page) and do some tests.i’ll post here.

Thanks for the information NoLimit! Good work  Please let us know what you find out but not too much of course since else people won’t read my review  Btw, I’m still waiting for my PX-708A to arrive unfortunately…

I hope you get yours soon and a review that will soon follow.

BTW, how much does it cost?

Mine shipped today, I’ll probably have it tomorrow.

i got mine for something around $265.

here is an audio cd test.
as you see, there is no speed limit for the audio cd burns.
burn was done using a plextor (taiyo yuden) cd-r.
speed reached 40.2X so it didnt stop at the 39.8X

I have a lot of problems with Philips DVD+R media (i destroy 3 media)
When I try to burn a coulr DiVX movies on dvd+r disk i get errors at the end.
I have try three times with latest Nero 60015 ver and with 5.5.1050 ver and I get errors a everytime.

When I burn on nashua DVD-R works fine

can somebody help me please

It looks like there is some kind of compatibility problem with Nero, the PX-708 and DVD+R media, see here.
Try burning with a different software.

Got my PX-708A today, strange that they do not bundle anyd empty discs with it, also nearly no manuals…that’s probably why the price is so low(to be a plextor that is).

To bad I can’t check it out before tomorrow.

i don’t think that this is the main reason for the price to be so slow…
i think that the price is low because its made in china…

Yeah I had the same thoughts. I bought the retail version for once, and they didn’t include media

has anyone tried copy a disk back to hd, burned on the px-708a??

i can burn a disk succesfully (+ and -) but i cant read them back
totaly, get read errors on the last 5%
als it wont play on my home dvd,
and the same disk, same brand burned on the px-504a
will play in my home dvd player.

Looks like this burner has trouble closing the disks.

i have no idea about the + media…couldnt get any.
i burnt 5 dvd-r media so far…all were perfect…no errors at all with writing or reading.

Guys, be sure to send any media incompatibilities to Plextor. They’ll be watching things pretty closely, good way to get any problems solved in the near term.
