My NEC 3500AG will only burn DVD @ 2x?!

Hello

I have a NEC 3500AG and I’m trying to copy data DVD’s but it will only ever burn at a max 2x. I have updated the firmware to 2.19 and tried with a number of different make of disc’s but still the same slow speed. I have also tried a number of different burning software (I normally use either Nero or Alcohol 120) but to no prevail!

Advise please

@ dupfold,

Welcome to the CD Freaks Forum.

Perchance can you provide the Manufacture ID and Media Code of blank DVD media? Suggest using a utility software program similar to DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com) to acquire the Manufacture ID and Media Code of blank DVD media.

Are you sure that the blank DVD Media is actually rated at a burning speed more than 2 speed?

defo 8x speed media and as I said I’ve tried a number of different makes so I don’t believe the media is the problem.

ok done that but DMA was already selected and device manager says the DVD drive is using DMA Ultra 2 but still no change in my burning speed

Check DMA for the harddisk too.

I have SATA hd

I’ve been watching the burning process and when it starts, its burning at 6.0x but then drops to 2.0x after maybe 15 seconds or so.

Apart from DMA (which checks out fine) what else could it be? I really need to get this up to speed.

My Maxtor SATA disk use DMA 5. Intel chipset.

Do you have reader and burner at separate ide channels.

Do you copy “on the fly”.

yes, two DVD-RW on two separate IDA channels, both master. Yes, copy on the fly and the reader drive reads at 6.0x so I understand I can only copy up to 6.0x but I still can’t even reach that.

What’s the speed of the DVD-RW. My guess 2x

the other DVD-RW has a burn speed of 2x but this is irrelevant as I’m using this as a reader and using the NEC 3500 as the burner.

What’s the actually burnspeed off the DVD-RW you will burn at with the NEC 3500A.

Use DVDIdentifier to get supported burnspeed.

ok just recorded direct from H/D and the record speed varied from 6.0x (even tho the media has a max speed of 8x) right down to 1.0x and averged 4.0x. Why is the speed so varied even recording from hd, surely that should be burning at a stable speed.

Post result.

Upgrade firmware to 2.1A

Already tried new firmware 2.19. Where can I get firmware 2.1A
