My Lite-On 812s can only burn CDs.... help

Hi all experts:

I got this Lite-on 812s long time ago and start from the very first day, I have problem burning DVDs. i have a sony viao notebook which comes with a 1X dvdrw, I put the internal lite-on in an external case connecting to my notebook using USB2(also tried firewire). The jumper on the writer is put on slave. when I try to burn dvd using Nero, right after the buffer fills up, an error of

SCSI command aborted
LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-812S\H2 T2

appears and nero will keep doing whatever it is doing for about 3 min.(please check 4:39:27 AM). I can burn CDs perfectly, but can’t burn DVDs. I have no idea what is wrong. Is it the notebook? the DVD writer itself? or the external case? or it is just the setting? I tried all different ways but it won’t work. Oh by the way, sometimes it can burn dvd ( there are times it can burn). One time i did a simulation burn and it goes ok, BUT, exact the same CD just 30 secs after, i do the simulation burn again and that SCSI command aborted thing come out…

Help help help… i am about to give up on this dvd burner which can only burn Cds for me, and go buy other brand. I am also afraid that after i get another dvdrw, it will be the same.

Here is the log file created by Nero, hope it is useful…

Have you tried other (better) media? I suspect that this may be the problem.

Also, have you tried another burning app like DVD Decrypter? Sometimes Nero can be a wee bit quirky.

#3

thanks for quick reply…

Ya i tried DVD decrypter to burn movies and it only plays on my Lite-on drive and the DVD drive in my VAIO. I try it on my friend’s notebook and didn’t work. I also try Easy cd creator before and no luck it that either. hm… i guess it is media, i will get other brand tomorrow and post the result. By the way, if I want to burn data ( individual files), what program other than Nero do you suggest?

thanks

#4

Just tried Ridata 8x dvd-r and it doesn’t work either. I tried to burn it on my vaio dvdrw and it worked… so i guess it is not the media???

what is SCSI command? i don’t have any SCSI device, is there some kind of driver or something i need to load instead of using WinXP’s, maybe windows thinks my dvd burner is a SCSI device since i am using a external case???

Thanks

#5

Hmm. I think you may have a defective drive, then. If you’ve tried other media and the drive can burn CDs, then you’ll probably want to call in your warranty on this drive. The upside is that since they don’t make 812S drives any more, you might end up getting sent a 16x drive as a replacement.

Although the drive’s connection is IDE, the commands that it receives are SCSI commands. This is how all IDE devices work, even your non-SCSI hard drives.

#6

I see. I will call them for a replacement
Thanks for all the info. They are very helpful.
