I am having trouble with this drive… it happened recently…
the Drive refuse to read any CD or DVD… and sometimes do…
I tried change to different firmware… and does not help the problem…
I think the drive might be semi-dead…
Can anybody help me?

I think my IDE cable is connect properly…
I am connecting to my MAXTOR 120GB 8MB ATA133 as Master
I will try a different cable… maybe a bad cable…
Also, put the 163D on IDE2 as Master by itself. Maybe it doesn’t like sharing channel w/ another drive.
my 163 is also dying (i think). I can tell if its not going to read a disc when I first load it as it doesn’t spin up at all(thought I can hear the laser moving). Hitting eject and reloading the disc doesn’t help at all. What does help(for me anyways) is to switch the type of media (dvd, cd, audio cd) or even put in a lens cleaner. It should read after a few tries, but then the problem does come back in a few days.
Called up the stored that I bought from…
get an RMA number
send it two days ago…
Hopefully that will exchange me another LITE ON DVD rom drive…
really hate it when I don’t have a DVD-ROM drive…
