My first DL burn failed

vbimport

#1

hi all

I 've just tried to burn my first DL disc with my NEC 3500, and the procedure failed after 10 minutes… The disc was a Traxdata 2.4x and the burning was made @ this speed, while my computer was doing nothing else. Reading the log below, could someone tell me what went wrong? Was it Nero (6.6), Nec, the disc? I’d appreciate any answer, u c i’m quite frustrated, as i 've just thrown 10 euros away (1/7 of the price of nec…) and don’t wanna this happen again…

Thanx in advance

ps: my system is a P4 @ 1.9GHz, 1024 RAM @ 266

Since no-one has answered you, I’ll throw in my 2 cents…tho I am no zen-master at nero error logs. At least I will bump this and maybe a nero tech will see this and swoop in and give us his opinion. I would also be interested in their response.
A couple things I see that could be a problem…

Nero version: 6.6.0.0

“You may want to upgrade to the latest version” …that is the standard company line, but it often works :iagree:

DVD-Copy on the fly
1:59:34 μμ #1 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 5379
Booktype counter: 500, Booktype selected in EEPROM, command version 2

Are you trying to copy on-the-fly? IMHO, that would certainly be risky. I would try my first DL burn by putting an image on the HDD first, then burning from that…less chance of an error and easier to trouble shoot a problem.

1:59:34 μμ #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2310
Recorder: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG, Media type: DVD+R9 Double Layer

Another thing, your blank DL disc is never identified by MID(I think it’s a ‘RITEKD01’), but it is recognized as a DL disc. This is where it usually gives the disc specs. You do have the latest official firmware(good), but I don’t know what the date on it is, or if it supports this MID specifically or just with a generic strat.

2:00:14 μμ #23 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 4674
Drive: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG
Booktype request: DVD-ROM, write to RAM
select Booktype setting from RAM

What’s this? Are you trying to set booktype? I would turn off that feature during DL burns…it may have been what confused nero.

0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x24 0x00
This is your first error and all following errors are the result of this. The code is for “INVALID FIELD IN CDB” …you have your ‘CDB Data’ line in the error quoted above, but I am not sure what it means other than it looks like the burner or nero didn’t like your disc.

By the way…some potentially good news  … it looks as if the error happened before any burning took place, therefore, this disc may still be considered blank and reuseable…hope this helps…

EDIT: further research shows your firmware DOES support these RITEKD01 discs, but for some reason they were not listed in the nero report. And official NEC firmware 2.18 DOES support bitsetting for +R DL discs:).

thanx a lot, really!

#4

apos, from what I’ve read, Verbatim DL discs are you best choice. The NEC-3500 will burn them at 4x.

DRF

#5

yeah, i know, but also are 50% more expensive! of course, if the media was the problem, i’ll try something better like the verbatim, but this is what i want to find out, IS it the media, or I did something wrong?

@ please: the burning process had unfortunately started, so the disc is useless…

Thank u both anyway!

#6

@ apos
you might try returning the disc(to the vendor or fire off a email to the manufacturer)and maybe they’ll replace it or get your money back
