And here the KPROBE test from the same DVD+R.

I belive the test speak for it self

#3

I don’t know about Platinum discs but I have many ricohjpnr02 disks.

For those new to Kprobe scans: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=80545

Hi…

where did you get that Platinum DVD+R? My Platinum DVD+R are CMC MAG E01 which burns only 8x in 4120. :frowning:

Regards,

Gerd

PS: Maybe you can post a scan of the printed side of the disc or maybe the part number or package type (spindle, jewelcase, slim case)

#5

Hi MrWGT,

Platinum uses both CMC and Ricoh for their 8x DVD+R.

My experiences:
Platinum DVD+R 8x in Jewel case both CMC and Ricoh
Platinum DVD+R 8x in 5 pack Jewel cases both CMC and Ricoh
Platinum DVD+R 8x in 25 cake box Ricoh (I have not yet had one with CMC)

My observations are (take a look at the picture):

Differences in the imprint
Differences in inner ring

These are just my own personal observations, and I can not give you a 100% guarantee that Platinum might change or have changed this.

Good luck!

#6

They look quite similar.

#7

Hi…

I got a 25 piece spindle with CMC MAG E01

But it’s the same surface like your CMC MAG E01 so i might be able to “detect” the right one in the shop. But isn’t there a paper on the top of the spindle package? So how to see the top of the dvd without opening the spindle pack? Hmm…

Regards,

Gerd

@MrWGT
A k-Probe scan of your Platinum CMC would be nice as those discs burnt with Plex 708 show PI’s up to 1200!!

#9

hi jan
can you do other kprob scans of several media that was burned with gsa 4120?
and can you check if the book type of dvd+r is dvd-rom?
thank you

It seems that it took about 7 min to burn at 12x.
How long it takes to burn at 8x?
I will buy a DVD recorder by the end of the month n i’m thinking of getting the LG4120 cause it’s cheap (112€) where i live.

#15

It took about 8 min to burn a DVD+R 8X with the LG GSA-4120.

And yes the LG GSA-4120 is cheap I payed apx. 99 EUR where i live.

#16

I don’t think the diference between burning at 8x or 12x is big,
unless there’s another good reason to buy the 4120 i’ll stick to
NEC2500 or 2510 (107€). I have 10 more days to decide so…

#17

Recording speed difference between 8x and 12x is very small even if the 12x is Plextor’s.

#18

Hi,

are there any more KProbes of other DVD-Rs.
I have to decide between this drive and the 2500(which I can upgrade),
cause price is 30€(36$) less than the 4120B.
If the compatibility is higher than the NEC drive, I will buy the LG one.
And also because there is korean blood running through my venes

Are the original Ricoh-DVD-Rs the same as the good Platinum.
In which shop do you buy your Spindel cause I’m from Germany too.

Thank you.

Smooth-T

#19

I would certainly not buy 2500! There rate of success of DL is 70%. The NEC people have explained that the DL requires special calibration of the eye. They also warned that if you upgrade to DL firmware then warranty is void.

As for the 2510 (2500 with calibrated eye and DL) - it is certainly a great drive. However, I would buy 4120 as you get X12 speed with adequate lazer technology and DVD RAM which is a great advantage for those who back up things on a regular basis.

#20

Is there any bitsetting update for the 4120?
