My experience with NEC 1300A

I baught Cendyne external DVD+/-RW drive which has NEC 1300A. The drive worked fine with Philips DVD+R but failed to even recognize Supermedia DVD-R media (which I got only for $32 for 100 +tax + shipping) Searching on Supermedia’s website told me the mediarequires at least firmware 1.0A. NEC website says we shouldn’t use their firmware upgrades for OEM drives. but Cendyne gave me a link to their website(european) for firmware upgrade. I ran the upgrade. Now the drive started writing on the media. But the media was not readable even by the same drive. searching on herrie.org forums, i found out about DVDinfo Pro. It determined that the DVD was unreadible. SO now even though the Cendyne support said that 1.0A was the latest driver available and i should try 1.0B, I upgraded to 1.0B. Regardless of what he said now my drive is working fine with the media. So I decided to write my experience as I couldn’t find my experiences with external NEC drives myself. Hope this helps. BTW I amusing Easy Media Creator 7.
I am also providing the media info which I got from DVDinfo PRo.

AML is a great budget media for my NEC 2500A drive with herrie’s firmware!

Try Ridata(Ritek) 4x ! I have burnt more than 70 blanks, no single error with my NEC 1100A (DELL OEM. hacked firmware 4x burning) 1100A and 1300A are phisically same.
