My dvd burner can write DVD-r's but not CD-r's

Hiya,

i got an issue with my DVD burner, HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-4164B,
i can burn and read DVD-r (and +r) discs but not CD-r’s. i have got a friend with the exact same setup of computer as me and he got the same issue. i have got an Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo X computer with XP media edition with SP-2.

any help would be nice,

Hi and welcome!

at first, please try to boot up your system with a bootable CD in this drive. If that fails also, then the CD part of the drive is probably defective.

In case the computer is still under warranty, please contact either Fujitsu-Siemens or your vendor.
