My CD burner is slow!

Hi, I’m new to this forum. I just purchased a new Memorex 52/32/52 CD/DVD burner yesterday. It came with Nero 6 and I loaded it. My problem is that it seems to be taking way too long to burn a CD. I have tried copying and existing music CD and I have copied .wav files to CD as well. In both scenarios it is taking 10-12 minutes for an 80 min CD.

Here is what I have attempted so far:

-Defrag computer
-Clear up hard drive space
-Run Spyware/Adware removal program
-Attempted using different media
-Tried calling Nero tech support (closed)
-In the Device Manager, my Primary IDE channel is set to DMA if available,
the Secondary IDE channel is set to DMA if available but shows the current transfer mode as PIO. Perhaps this can be changed somehow?

I have a Dell 2400 MHz with bus speed 533 MHz if that helps at all.

Any suggestions?

Hi & Welcome.

Check this thread for enabling DMA.

HDDs should typically be Ultra DMA mode 5 or 6 & burners mode 2 or 4. PIO makes it very slow at reading/burning & prone to burn errors, uses lots of CPU as well.

This actually is far less of a problem with CD burners than DVD burners but needs to be fixed.
