My bro's laptop burner burns better than my 112d

Lately I’ve been running in to problems when burning dvds. Some dvds work, others just won’t read after a while. The dvd’s don’t have scratches on them. I’ve updated my burner to 1.24 firmware (so its recent). I don’t need the benefits of converting my drive to 112L so 1.24 is sufficient for me. I did improve the bitsetting a little (note that I’m no pro at this as well).

Basically, my brother’s computer can always burn what my burner can’t. I don’t know what’s the problem here… If its b/c of the burner, the firmware, or my computer (hard-drive, etc…) and I need to find out. I did a fair amount of research before deciding on the 112d and I’m not about to settle with all these errors.
When I do a surface scan using Nero’s “Cd-DVD speed” I get this error: DVD Drive L-EC Uncorrectable Error

Also I’ve copied and pasted the log for the error (when I try to burn the disk) below:

#2

What exact media were used?

#3

the original dvd:
DVD+R, YUDEN000 T02 (sorry… i looked at the top of the dvd. doesn’t say what media but I know it’s brand name. Cuz we don’t buy those no-brand name ones). It’s like olive green on top, not sure if that helps.

the dvd I want to burn to: Memorex, DVD+R

#4

Memorex dvd media should be avoided due to bad quality mostly.

Genuine Verbatim & TY is your best choice.

#5

I know… but verb’s weren’t on sale and I was desperate for some dvds. but the thing is, the error pops up in the 1st stage…the reading stage. So it’s irrelevant to what media i’m using.

#6

@ deepsplash,

Then you have a problem with the Media Disk you are attempting to “Read”.

Regards,
bjkg

#7

That was deep. you’re my hero bjkg. try to read your disk on another drive and make an iso or some kind’a image then burn it on your 112D. Memorex ----> ritekf1’s aren’t the worse media ever. there was a spike or two, but all in all decent burns (um i think i tripped on the computer). I check my disks some are physically wrong. you can see it  at 11$ for 50 one can afford to chuck the crap or burn some random friend a movie.

I’m not sure if I understand the purpose behind this. What you’re saying is for me to go to bro’s laptop and make an image of the original disk. Then get that image on my computer and try to burn it?
If I did that, would it tell me what exactly the problem is (my burner is messed up or burner lens needs cleaning, my computer’s hard drive or ram, etc…) ? allowing me the chance to fix it. What i’m trying to do is find out the problem and fix it. We’ve already got a copy of this dvd (using my bro’s laptop).

#9

Well i guess i missed something
but it seems your drive wasn’t able to REad the media and the laptop was. And you learnt that the media should work since mine was able to burn on it

i think :

that is where the problem is at, but saddly it means little more then scsi error and sense key: 0x03 (medium_error) Someone more experienced with this might tell you what it means.

@ deepsplash,

Explain Exactly what you mean in your first quoted statement. Be explicit and detailed in what are you scanning in Nero CD DVD Speed that is giving you this error.

From your second quoted statement it appears that there is some type of Error with the “Source” that you are attempting to Burn to your blank Memorex DVR-R Media. Explain in explicit detail Exactly what you are attempting to Burn to your blank Memorex DVR-R Media.

The more detailed pertinent information you provide the easier it will be for Forum Members to Fully understand Exactly what tasks you are attempting to perform with your DVR-112D and Exactly what problems you are encountering will enable Forum Members to provide meaningful assistance.

bjkg
