I have noticed that when I burn, during the Lead-In and Lead-Out tracks that the buffer under-run light pops on (flashes yellow) for a really brief second. After doing some checking around on these forums and others I discovered that for some reason both my Lite-On DVD-Rom drive (165H) and my LDW-451S@851S is being read as being Multi-Word DMA 2.
Ok, so off to research I go. I found out that Multi-Word DMA 2 is apparently equal in bandwidth as PIO Mode 4 - I've done several of the suggestions offered on the various forums to get XP to get these drives stuck in Ultra DMA Mode 2 but without success of any variety.
My last resort, since my poor motherboard is a dirt old chipset (KT133A MSI K7T Turbo2 with an Athlon XP 1800+), was to purchase a Promise PCI UltraATA133 IDE Controller card so I can get these drives off the VIA Chipset. Any opinions? Did I waste $35 for the price of the card? Haven't recieved it yet but I'm curious if others have been stuck in a similar situation and were forced to go the same route or not. Thanks all.
