Mp3-wav difficulties

Trying to burn mp3s as Audio cd with Nero 5.5.8.2 and some of my mp3s end up with nasty distortion. I initially thought it was a problem with the Nero decoding, until I realised that the problem occurs the moment a file - wav, mp3 or otherwise - is placed in the burn list. Hitting Edit and playing it with the Nero editor it sounds fine, and it sounds fine in winamp or anything else, but hitting Play from the burn list it plays all distorted, and that's what I end up with when I burn.
Only SOME mp3s have this problem, but it is the same ones consistently. The mp3 encoding should be fine, used Fraunhofer and as stated they play fine anywhere but the Nero burnlist.

The other thing I was wondering about is why the speed test and simulation options are greyed out seemingly no matter what I do, and the slowest speed I can choose to burn at is 8x.

I'm using WinME, Nero 5.5.8.2 (before the upgrade I had the same problem), with a Sony 24x10x40x CDRW.

I'm fairly new to all this, so I'd really appreciate help with anything. Thanks, and sorry this was so long-winded!

can you try EAC with the lame codec?? i am curious if it gives you the same problem

(when you burn the cd…do you encode/decode on the fly?)

Yeah decoding on the fly…or I assume it is…?

But I’m pretty sure now that it isn’t the problem because it isn’t only after a burn that I get the distortion, but beforehand, soon as the file is transfered to the burn list, playing from the HD. I’ve got no other burning software atm to compare against, downloading a copy of Adaptec Easy cd creator now to see if it works fine…

try EAC with the lame codec? Sorry, you’ll have to explain how

Thanks for the response man, this is really odd and annoying heh.
