MP3 Codec

As you can see this is my first post, abit of a n00b. My problem is this… i have just brought an Archos AV340, dont know if you have heard of it or not, doesnt matter if you havent.

When i put .AVI files onto it like the matrix the movie, the sound is out of sync with the picture, on the Troubleshooting part of the manual, it was that to resolve the problem i have to re-encode the file which is a Variable Bit Rate (VBR) using an MP3 codec to create an MP3 sound track that is Constant Bit Rate (CBR).

Do you know where i could get one from? And is it easy to do?

All you have to do is use the ‘streams’ tool in Virtualdub to extract the current soundtrack from the file.

Then decode that to .wav using any audio tool (even WinAMP will do it using the disk writer plugin) and then re-encode to mp3 CBR using any encoder. I prefer the LAME encoder.

Then you re-insert the new mp3 soundtrack again using the same tool in VirtualDub.

The process requires some learning of how to do the technical steps, but it is not ‘hard’ by any means.
