Hey Guys…

The 5001 Goes for approx 170 and the 5005 goes for approx 220.

Is the added features of the 05 worth the xtra $ ??

I use Philips DVD+R disc and Philips/Magnavox DVD players.Any playback problems with the made dvd’s on the Liteon?

Thanks

The different between those is that 5005 can record on -R and -RW disc.
I own 5005 and in my opinion I would recommend 5001 because +RW format faster than -RW and when record on +RW disc you don’t have to finalize the disc when finish recording. Had problem with play back incompatability before but the problem solved after updating the latest firmware.

Go with 5001 and save the money. +RW and +R disc are so cheap anyway nowaday.

There are pros and cons to both the -R/RW and +R/RW formats. Check this link on the AVS forum for a pretty even handed comparison - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?postid=4958727#post4958727.

Also, keep in mind that the 5005s can be had for $160 now ($159.95 at Costco, similar deal at K-mart apparently), so unless you’re getting a much better deal than that on the 5001 I would personally go for the machine that gives you the flexability to use either format.

Good luck…

Don’t forget the 5005s ablitiy to write to Cd-r and Cd-RW !! great for producing audio Cd’s from sky !!

although if you could get the base firmware for the 5005 and reflash the 5001 it would write to all formats anyway.

The only way I know this is because I have looked in all the LVW5005s I have had and one had a mainboard LVW5001B rev 4 and had the 0076 firmware , the drive was the 411s which was also in one of the LVW5005s and when searched for on google pulled up reviews of the 5001.
