Moser baer CDs

hi everyone

ive been having trouble burning moser baer blank CD-Rs on my BENQ CD writer drive. For some reason I have not had any trouble burning Imation or Memorex CDs. However, someone gave me a whole large bunch of moser baer CDs (sealed and packed). Whenever I try to burn something I have problems. I burn files using Nero Express. I’ve been shooting a lot of video clips with my new camera. When I try to burn these files on to the CD, Nero burns the thing, supposedly successfully. But then when I put the burned CD back in the drive it is unable to read it. Once I tried converting a large video I shot into VCD format. I did this successfully and made an ISO/CUE but then when I tried burning that it didnt even start, it said write error. Here’s an example of one of the failure logs I get from Nero:

Can someone please tell me if there’s anything I can do? I’m a man of limited means and I’d rather not throw away a year’s worth of blank CDs if I can help it.

Hi ashok5, welcome to CDF

First of all, try following the steps in this thread to get DMA enabled on your CDRW drive.

That alone might help. But also, I see a [KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR] in your log, which looks like the discs may be a problem.

Welcome to CDF,
First of all it shows that DMA is off for your CDRW drive. See here on how to enable it. Next try slowing down your burn speed to 24X or 32X.

thanks for the suggestions and the welcomes, guys. I will try out your suggestions now and get back to you.

Yeah, slowing the speed slightly might be good. For data, I like 32x and for audio, 16x…you don’t really lose much time in doing so

Good luck!

And burning at 52x can kill all but the best of CD-R media - I have killed some Moser Baer CD-R media myself (Imation and Verbatim Extra Protection) on my dad’s 52x LiteOn CD-RW burner.

ashok5, you have been given some solid advice so far. Try following the advice and let us know how it goes.

And welcome to CDFreaks! :flower:

Was this LiteOn’s fault or 52x speed’s fault? Or maybe both?

I’d say the speed or the discs. Or even that DMA wasn’t enabled.

Stop bashing Liteys, you

The combination Moser Baer + LiteOn SOHR-5238S + 52x burning is too much to ask, apparently.

But my personal opinion is that 52x burning should be avoided, because the added risk of producing a coaster just isn’t worth the few seconds saved. And 48x is also a bit on the edge for a lot of media/drive combinations. Even 40x is pushing it sometimes - burning Taiyo Yuden CD-R media at 40x in NEC/Optiarc DVD burners is not a good idea in my experience, unless you enjoy E22 errors.

And that takes us down to the 32x burning speed which is safe for most media/drive combinations.
