Missing "video_ts.vob" after Recode of Brazil, CC, Disk 1, Reg. 1

vbimport

#1

For some reason, recode seems to do a fine job through advanced analysis and compiling of DVD files; but fails during “reallocating dvd files” if attempting to burn. When I have Recode burn to the hard disk, the process completes because it ends before the fatal step. By copying the original “video_ts.vob” file to the new folder I seem to have found a work around that works…

But why is the file not being written in the first place?

Here is a log:

Ok, so I copied the failed burn files to a new folder, added the missing “video_ts.vob” file from the original, and tried to burn THAT with recode. (This time, all settings were at 100%) since the movie has already been compressed.

The compressed movie, with the “Video_TS.vob” file added, plays fine off the hard drive in Showtime.

Yet again, in Recode, after cacheing the new DVD files for a burn, the “video_ts.vob” file disappears again.

What’s going on?

How do I burn a DVD if all I have is a “video_ts” folder, without using recode or shrink? I have DVD Decrypter; but I think I need to turn that “video_ts” folder into an .ISO file, right? How do I do that again? Anybody remember?

Thanks!!

#3

use DVD Shrink to turn the VIDEO_TS folder into an ISO, then burn with Decryptor…btw, there’s also a newer version of Recode out.

#4

Thanks for the answer, but is there a way to do this without using Shrink?
I rather not load another program that is so similar to one I already use; and worry about driver conflicts and such.

So far nothing in the release notes has led me to believe that updating Recode or Nero will fix my problem, and I’d rather not mess with it, either, as so far this version has proved very stable for me.

So until they release one that according to the release notes or this forum fixes one my known issues:

  1. Disk is always ejected after a burn in Recode no matter if you select “do not eject disk after burn” or not.

  2. “Merge Titles” feature in Recode DOES NOTHING. It doesn’t Merge titles at all, right now.

  3. This current issue, which I never encountered before.

… I don’t think I’d like to risk updating … what with all the problems so many people seem to have when they do that. My current version is only 2 1/2 months old, even if it is an update or two out of date. Geesh.

#5

Ok, I tried using ImgTool to create an .iso file, but it crashed. Presumably because the “video_ts.vob” that I brought over from the pre-compression rip doesn’t match the “video_ts.ifo” from the recode produced files. Here’s a log from that:

“/cygdrive/e/My Software/More Programs/DVD ImgTool Classic v.0.91.5/mkisofs: Either VIDEO_TS.IFO or VIDEO_TS.VOB is not of correct size/cygdrive/e/My Software/More Programs/DVD ImgTool Classic v.0.91.5/mkisofs: Unable to parse DVD-Video structures.
/cygdrive/e/My Software/More Programs/DVD ImgTool Classic v.0.91.5/mkisofs: Unable to make a DVD-Video image.”

A promising lead goes for naught. Doh!

#6

Hmm … I tried it again after copying all three of the original “video_ts.*” files (.ifo,.bup,.vob) … and this time the iso was created with ImgTool.

I’m gonna attempt a burn with DVDD. Still don’t know where my “video_ts.vob” kept going, and would still like to know, but maybe I’ve found a workaround?

I’m not sure, Showtime doesn’t play my .iso files right. I’ll have to finish the burn to know.

#7

For those of you who’ve read this far, and might possibly encouter a problem like this yourself someday …

The above solution worked … the backup plays fine, just as intended.

Don’t know why Nero wanted to deep six the “video_ts.vob” file, but it did. The sucessful workaround: Use the old “video_ts.*” files instead.

I also learned today that ImgTool (Classic Version in this case) is a great free utilty that can turn a “video_ts” folder into an .iso file suitable for burning with DVD Decrypter. Hal-le-loo-yah. No I’ve got a tool that does the opposite of ISOBuster and I’m a happy guy.

Blue Skies, all!

P.S.

How 'bout this awesome first round we’re having in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, eh? Awesome!

<sniff!>

Install the freeware program IfoEdit - and in that program press “open” and locate the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the folder where you have saved your files from DVD Decrypter. See screenshot below:

Then press this button:

Now you’ll get a decision to make. Would you like IfoEdit to correct the sectors in all IFO files in that directory, then press ‘Yes’. (This is the usual use). Or if you just want to check the sectors of the current loaded IFO file, then press ‘No’. I always choose the ‘Yes’ option.

After pressing ‘Yes’, IfoEdit will load every IFO file, and check the sector addresses. If one or more are wrong, IfoEdit will show you which addresses have been changed:

If no wrong sector addresses have been found, then IfoEdit does not re-save the IFO file. After that is done and you are back to the main menu - close the program and you are finished with this step.

In all instances, just to make sure IfoEdit works correctly, you should always restart IfoEdit before doing this ‘Get VTS Sectors’ thing if you want to do it on several folders with saved DVDs.

If you encounter that IfoEdit reports this:

There's something wrong!
The Ifo Endsector does not match the file size.

The solution to this problem is that you should do the same procedure with IfoEdit again - open up the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and press the button ‘GET VTS sectors’. Exit IfoEdit and then open up the files again in DVD Shrink. This time it will work.

Thanks for this method, too.

Cynthia,
Ripping movies with Arccoos encryption with DVD43 on, once ripped with Decrypter 3.5.4.0 went OK, played OK.
Shrink and burn (Nero), then problems with missing .vob files … failed to allocate.
Tried the IFOedit, seems did not work.
Turn-off DVD43. Rip with decrypter then burned with Shrink … made copies with no HITCH.

Thanks for the advice.
Ur COOL:

DVD Decrypter don’t like when DVD43 also is running at the same time.
