Mini DV to PC

Hey folks,

My father-in-law has given me his old mini dv camcorder for our up cmoing trip to NY, I tried to hook it up to my laptop to take the video’s into editing software so I could create a DVD however, the USB Drivers for this are out of date (XP only, and I currently run Vista). I want to know if there is a way around this to get the video onto my laptop, I thought Fire Wire but again wasn’t sure if this would have the same problems with drivers etc. . . .

Fire Wire should work without drivers. WinDV (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=winDVr&Submit=Search&convert=&s=&orderby=Name&hits=50) should be able to copy it to your PC.
