I notice when they talk about this stuff, they hardly ever include Windows Servers.

I recommend those who don’t want Microsoft Office take refuge in non-Microsoft software, since Microsoft and “the cloud” are both completely untrustworthy. I used to like OpenOffice, as is was (and still is) free as in freedom, and free as in $0.00. However, LibreOffice has become a pretty lean alternative, which arguably leaves OpenOffice in the dust.

My needs are pretty basic, have been using WPS 2016.

If you don’t have or want MS Office or LibreOffice, you can just use the free and portable Free Viewer which not only opens any .docx file (and a host of other file types) but also has document editing capabilities. Very useful little program to keep on a usb stick.
