Microsoft releases Intel microcode updates to protect against L1TF and Spectre 3a/4 attacks

Microsoft has started to distribute important microcode updates for Intel processors powering systems running Windows 10 October 2018 Update or Windows Server 2019. The updates should protect the devices against L1TF and Spectre 3a/4 attacks.

If your CPU is affected, and if there’s no update from Microsoft, consider checking your CPU manufacturer’s website to see if there’s anything you can install manually.

For GNU/Linux users, you should check your distro’s software repos to see if there’s any microcode for your CPU available. At the very least, there should be amd-microcode and intel-microcode packages for x86 processors, which I recommend you install.
