I'm having an occasional problem whereby the movie backup goes thru the motions of completing a DVDFab copy,(very fast I might add), with the VSO engine, but when trying to playback I get a constant hourglass as the DVD tries to load. I'm using WinXP with a Gateway 3.2Ghz CPU and a Nec ND-3500AG recorder. Using Nero I am able to erase the DVD and go thru another copy but the same thing happens. I appear to have this problem only when using the VSO engine. I have not experienced any problems using the Nero Burn engine. I've been discarding the Memorex DVDs however, I have experienced the same condition with a couple TDKs. The recent problem occurred while backing up Apokolic. I was able to read the erased DVD using Spybot's Analyser and found the following record noted.
"Filename = (a menu icon with a pointing finger overlay), Size=44, attribute=Security, Version ADS" if this makes any sense.
My first thoughts were to ignore the problem and assume it was media until I switched burn engines. The last version it occured on was 126.96.36.199...I'll try to go back to the VSO engine in 188.8.131.52 and see if I can reproduce the condition with more info about the movie producer. ie., Liongate etc. since it appears something is being written other than the movie during the copy process.
