My 5 yr old generic DVD drive that came with this computer seems to play some movies back better then my brand new Memorex 16x DVD recorder… I get choppy playback. Any suggestions.

Is DMA enabled on the IDE channel that the burner is on? Check your device manager under the IDE ATA/ATAPE controllers, it will be listed under properties, and should have Ultra DMA # listed.
Also, have you checked for available firmware updates?
That seemed to have been the problem… a simple firmware update fixed the playback problems. ! Thanks.
