Memorex DVD 16+/-DL4RWnD2 wont read certain discs, help please

First I’d like to say I didnt know where to post this is I saw every brand but memorex (unless im missing something) and I searched the forum for this model and saw one thread where it said that it was a rebadged NEC driver so I thought posting here would be appropriate.

Everything was fine until recently when it would not burn imation discs, so I thought it must be a cheap brand and I went out and bought a 20 disc spindle of memorex discs cant remember any specifics but now I bought a 50 pk 16x memorex spindle and none of the discs will work.

Ive tried updating the firmware from memorex to no avail. This is really irritating and any help would be much appreciated!

This is what I get when I insert the disc while waiting to burn. But when I insert the disc without any burning program and I open up the disc on nero and has all the info on the disc. So it reads the disc but wont burn on it.

Absolutely no help? I can no longer burn anything and it is really starting to frustrate me.Im buying discs that are of the same maker as my drive and they will not burn. I am told to dl new firmware but I am and still no luck. Is it a rebadged drive? If so where can I get the new firmware? Thanks

#4

I just emailed memorex and they sent me the firmware, but it did not work. Should I be worried? :frowning:

#5

Is Incd, Alcohol or Daemon Tools installed?

Have you tried with other media?

#6

No none of those are installed, and yea I’ve tried imation before and then now they dont work. Memorex worked before and now they dont,I just got some sony discs and Ill check them out now will update with any info, thanks

#7

Well the sony discs work, and memorex keeps on sending me the wrong firmware. So should I just stick to sony? I have 100 useless memorex discs at my disposal now though :frowning:

#8

I too have a somewhat similar problem in that my Memorex, as well as a Samsung are both inoperable! My computer doesn’t even recognize them and if I try to do anything I get a (code 10) non-existant driver forboth of them. The only thing I can remember doing lately is running the compatibility wizard so that my HP Printer would function correctly with the new Vista (yuk) version.
Anyone wit a clue as to where to get the drivers downloaded from or what the cure is.
Thanks in advance, Jagster.

Get better media or a better burner.

#10

The media isn’t that bad at all but I had to face the same problem at work a few months ago. We had some MBI discs labelled “Corporate Express”. The interlan ND-7551A was not able to read the discs because they were not supported in the firmwares for this drive and strategies from other drives didn’t seem to be compatible.

Found a way to burn the disc with an external 2510 drive, updated to the latest firmware and manually patched the media code because the firmware had an MID with blanks and the media itself had the Bytes set to zero (or the other way round).
Get better media or a better burner.
But they both are of the same brand, so it would be logical for them to work together which is what I dont understand.
