Impress AV Watch reports that Melco has announced the imminent availability of Buffalo DVR-R42FB based on Toshiba SD-R5112 featuring the ability to write at 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW. The drive has 2MB buffer memory and can also write to CD-R at 16x and CD-R at 10x.

Edit:

As jsl pointed out, SD-R5112 can only read DVD-RAM

From the Babelfish translation I interpret that it’s only capable of reading DVD-RAM, not writing.

I checked it again.

It writes to

DVD-R General, DVD-RW, CD-R, CD-RW High Speed

It reads

DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-ROM, Audio CD (CD-DA), CD-TEXT, VideoCD, CD-R, CD-RW

I have to edit the first post and thanks, jsl!

Thanks for your information.

I’m very interesited in this drive. I want to buy it. But, I have some doubt about one of the specifications. The reading speed of CD-DA is limited to only 6x!

SD-R5002, the previous model, can read CD-DA at 16x.

I don’t like this kind of degrading. Why does TOSHIBA do that?

Thanks,
