Internet users traditionally reliant on BitTorrent to share and download files are now finding new file sharing alternatives. Recently published research revealed pirates prefer directly downloading material, if possible, with users now searching for direct download services.

how do they monitor how much traffic is actually pirated on these services?

Bittorrents was fairly obvious the majority was pirated, but on these sites, anytime someone needs to share a file, the post it on these websites. Quite often I’ve downloaded stuff from those sites that don’t break copyright, just stuff people need a filehosting site to share.

The usual … run a random number generator, multiply the result by 10%, and add 90% to it :wink:

I hope they are not using the same random number generator they used for the PS3 “root key” :slight_smile:

I’m sure the powers that be have their ways; mostly by repeated returns to a certain website. As cell phone records are searched for multiple calls to the same number. Patterns develop…
