I would like to burn Verbatim DVD+R DL on 2.4 speed on my Lite-On iHas324y burner, I loaded the firmware file ihas324y_bl1wbt_orig.bin into MCSE (v1.2.06) and changed the write strategy of the DVD, but I can’t save the changed firmware file???, I constantly get the message “The input file is just supported in read only mode, changes can not be saved”.<O:p</O:p
<O:p
Since I am new at using MCSE, I guess I am doing something wrong :o???, please help me !!!<O:p</O:p
<O:p
Details:
W7-x64 ultimate
Lite-On iHAS324y burner
Verbatim DVD+R-DL 8x

Thanks,

You are not doing anything wrong, simply MCSE doesnt support that function.

Simply use the current MCSE version, which is 1.2.0.7.

Thanks ala42,

It’s working perfect now :)

also would like to request riplock patch for SH-B083L, when ever you get to it.

its a great drive, does BD quality scanning, it might be Lite-on clone, but build quality of the drive is much higher.

Thanks

Hi,

I would like to report possible problems in MCSE with Asus drives since I was unable to load the following firmwares even if they are listed as supported:
DRW-22B2S both official firmwares
DRW-20B1L official one
so I tried LG GH22NS40 which loads without problems.

I have one question since I can’t find solution for a last day and a half I spent on that particular problem.
My son has my old laptop and only dvd it reads is if they are burnt as dvd rom which my old Pioneer was able to burnt after firmware patch to piotec if I remember correctly but with this new Asus 22B2S I wasn’t able to find new firmware and those things in nero and imageburn are not working. However I found firmware posted from codeking for Asus 22B2ST drive. I would like to know can I use this firmware or if not what can I do to enable bitsetting to dvd rom.

Thanks

You have to load .bin firmware files or unscrambled firmwares like the ones released by C0deking for Liteon drives or their Asus clones with MCSE.

If you need to force the booktype to DVD-ROM, try the Liteon Booktype Utility, see http://club.myce.com/f44/comprehensive-liteon-tools-collection-v5-0-7-revised-8-january-2007-a-83441/#media-booktype

Thanks ala42 for replay but liteon utility doesn’t work on my drive. Do you maybe have info which liteon drive is same as my asus drw-22b2s I found that just maybe it is either iHAP122 or iHAP322. Do you have any info regarding this. Can I use firmware made by c0deking for 22b2st - does that firware remove riplock and give bitsetting capability? and if I run in the trouble can I revert back to original asus from their web site v.1.01. As I can see from c0deking post Liteon user will be unable to revert back. Thanks

ala42,

First, thanks for creating this program. Used it on a LG drive and it helped immensely.

I was wondering if you had any updates as far as progress made with the Samsung S223C. From what I can see, you seem to be the only one with a firmware tool that’s working on it. I recently picked one up from Micro center for a machine mostly dedicated to dvd backup and riplock is making me want to throw this thing in the garbage.

Thanks again for all your efforts.

#1211

Sorry, currently I have no plans to spend the days that would take for this drive.

#1212

Thanks for responding. Looks like I’m exchanging it for something else.

MediaCodeSpeedEdit says “Support for all LiteOn,” but I would like to report problem.

LiteOn DH24AYS firmware (from Liggy’s) can be loaded, but the listed strategies are strange.

I would not call a NEC drive with a Liteon sticker a Liteon drive. Anyway, this drive and some other NEC clones with Liteon sticker are supported in the next release.

Edit: these clones are added in the next release:

        - added support for ATAPI DVD A DH24AYS (Nec 724x clone)
        - added support for ATAPI DVD A DH24AYL (Nec 724x clone)
        - added support for ATAPI iHAS124 Y (Nec 724x clone)
        - added support for ATAPI iHAS224 Y (Nec 724x clone)
        - added support for ATAPI iHAS324 Y (Nec 724x clone)
        - added support for ATAPI iHAS424 Y (Nec 724x clone)
        - added support for SONY DVD RW DRU-875S (Nec 724x clone)

You find a list of riplock patch supported drives on the MCSE homepage, which was empty since the last release by mistake.

Thanks I can see that it is supported. I will give it a try when io get the drive.

#1221

Do Samsung models like the SH-B083L and SH-B123x…
Have the same level of support as say LG models like the xH10LS20?
Is there anything I can do to help speed-up the process? Thank-you.

#1222

No and no. There is just a simple read only media list support for the SH-B083 drives, no patches of any kind. The drives use a new chipset using a ARM CPU core, so the initial effort needed to support this new drive family is quite high. Currently I have no time to support it.
