First, can you please post a dump of the HA28 firmware? You can use the Flash Utility (http://club.myce.com/f44/flash-utility-plds-liteon-based-optical-drives-v6-0-1-a-190420/) to dump your firmware. You can upload the file to a free host such as zippyshare, and then post the link here.
Secondly, what exactly do you want to use MCSE for?

As you can see I can’t change the recording speed. I have the disc Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layer 8X and I want recording 2X or 2.4 X.
I’m using ImgBurn, which I set a record at 2X. Program records at 3X.

I want to change the firmware so I can burn DL discs at speed 2.4X or 2X.
As the MCSE screenshot suggests (lots of MIDs are incorrectly displayed, and there are also a bunch of funny characters), MCSE doesn’t support that firmware, and therefore editing is disabled, so I’m afraid you’re out of luck…

I have (2) BenQ 1655 drives. Using MediaCodeSpeedEdit I changed the write strategy for MKM 001 on the 1st drive to support 4X and 8X. This worked fine for years (until the drive died.) I just tried the same on my second drive, but although it shows up as supporting 4X and 8X, Nero still refuses to burn at any speed other than 2.4X.
Obviously I did something wrong. Can someone help me please?

Did you have to enable the speed by selecting a check box, or did you rename another strategy to MKM 001, OR did you have to double click the MKM 001 strategy and point to a different strategy that supports 4x and 8x?

I double clicked MKM001 and selected the strategy from MKM 003 which is good through 8X.
I believe that’s how I did it on the other drive as well.

EDIT: WAIT! If not, try that, flash, do a full reboot (or a power cycle, if you want to be completely sure that it took), and try again.

I wonder if lossy strategy swapping will work…
Rename the current MKM 001 strategies (it looks like there are two, for different revisions of MKM 001) to anything…renaming to MKM 002 will be fine. Then rename MKM 003 to MKM 001 (make sure you get the right revision! ), save, flash, and reboot (maybe do a full power cycle).
And be careful that you flash with the right file. Sometimes it’s the smallest of mistakes that trip us up. Or it could be a bug with MCSE. Who knows?
Here’s the RPC1 patched BCHB. I am going to attempt using this first - it should burn these at 8X without me modifying anything, shouldn’t it?
I’m not sure if they did anything beyond add the RPC1 patch, honestly. From where did you get it?

Media Code Speed edit is a great tool, but unfortunately it is highly unlikely that there will be any further updates. [B]Ala42[/B] hasn’t been seen on this forum for some time - his last post was in 2012.
Like most of the great optical drive utility developers & firmware patchers, he has probably left the scene and found another field in which to use his talent. 
But their work is still valued & used regularly by us die-hard CD Freaks.

What exact features are you looking for which MediaCodeSpeedEdit could give (in principle), which are presently absent in a generic iHAS124 F with CL98 firmware ?
