Okay from what I gather Riteks are either good or mediocre quality depending on batch, Ive got some discs here bought in the UK (scandinavia) marked as Traxdata.

When I fired up DVD Identifier It gave me this:

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:RITEKG04]

Disc Type : [DVD-R]
Manufacturer ID : [RITEKG04]
Manufacturer Name : [Ritek Co.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]

Media code:

0000 : 01 40 c1 fd 9e d8 52 00 02 76 0e 14 88 9a 80 00 .@…R…v…
0010 : 03 52 49 54 45 4b 47 00 04 30 34 00 00 00 00 00 .RITEKG…04…
0020 : 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 06 08 12 11 86 67 80 00 …g…

So I take it these are Ritek generation 4’s? Im thinking of R02-03-04 for some reason, is there a similar brand with that kind of nomenclature?

And on the off chance that anyone should happen to know, are these discs ok? complete crap?

You’re thinking of the Ritek DVD+R discs. (RITEKR02/RITEKR03)
Ritek DVD-R discs used the format of G03/G04/G05, however, new Ritek DVD-R is hitting the market now with a MID code of Ritek M02.

Unfortunately, there are so many different types and variabilities in RitekG04 media that it is impossible to tell you if your discs are good quality just by looking at the MID. The only way you’ll find out is by toasting some of those puppies! Good luck!
