What do you guys think of the Western Digital and Maxtor external (Firewire) hard drives?
Primary use would be to store WAV files.
Also, is the difference between 2 mb cache and 8 mb cache going to be noticeable with the Firewire connection?
they are both really good companies. try to get the hard disk thats least expensive but also make sure it has a good rpm. (7200 is good). as for the cache, 8mb is awesome but i don't think you need it.
8Mb cache HD on firewire is a waste off moneyyou aint going use that by a long way.
better go for an 5400rpm high capacity model then a 7200rpm model with less capacity.
just 480Mbit max so u dont need all the fancy 7200rpm and 8Mb cache thingies
well now 7200 cost around 5400 rpms so go with the 7200. use www.pricewatch.com to find the best deals!
I have 2 Maxtor 80GB drives, 2 & 8MB cache, no problems here, they work great.
I am currently using a Maxtor 120GB 8MB cache in an external enclosure made by Bytecc with USB 2.0 and Firewre. I have been using firewire and it works great. I am running out of room so I am thinking about getting a 200GB external one. Let me know if you are interested in purchasing the Maxtor 120GB with the external enclosure.
