Maximum burn speed 2.4x

I have a Toshiba laptop with a Matshita (UJ-841S) burner. Around a month ago I noticed that the burning was extremely slow. I did a little research and discovered that the drive wasn’t in DMA mode. I was able to fix the problem and the burner is now in DMA mode.
My current problem is that I cannot burn above 2.4x (3,324 KB/s). I’ve tried using both Nero and Magic ISO and both programs gave me the same max speed. The drive is still in DMA mode and, before I fixed it, I was able to burn at 8x (although it was more like 4x because it was in PIO).
The disks that I’m using (TDK) are fine. I’ve been using them in another laptop with great results at a variety of speeds.
How can I fix my burner to burn at 8x again?

Your Matshita burner probably doesn’t have firmware support for the TDK media you are burning, so it only offers the lowest possible speed.

Try some other DVD media and see if those can be burned faster.

My Matshita UJ-840S hates most DVD media but I don’t know if your drive is as picky as mine. (It prefers Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD+R media).
